Welcome to my list!

Hello there! Thanks for coming to check out today's entry in my on-going list of my top 100 favorite albums of all time. Music and creative writing have both been deep passions of mine for a while, and I'm so happy to once again be able to indulge and share my opinions with you. This project began somewhere in the middle of 2022 after some inspiration from other top 100 lists, as well as my own curiosity of how a list like this might look for me. After weighing the options and crunching the numbers, I'm proud to deliver my results over the course of 2023!

Listening to a full studio album in its entirety is an experience that slowly seems to be fading away in the age of streaming singles. However, the popularity of vinyl records as the preferred physical media keeps the cover-to-cover listening experience alive and well. My desire to pay homage to the albums that captivate and entrance the listener all on their own led me to start compiling all the albums I've listened to that had those effects on me. There were plenty of revisions along the way, but I think I've finally got a solid list that encapsulates the broad spectrums of my music taste. Before we begin, I thought it'd be important to lay down a few ground rules of what not to expect in this list:

  • One album per artist. Otherwise I think there'd be like 7 King Gizzard albums on the list. To clarify, an artist as a solo act is considered separate from any group work they may have done. For example, Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath may both respectively have albums on this list.

  • No compilation albums. Best-ofs and singles collections just kinda seem against the spirit of what makes a genuine studio release fantastic, so no Legend by Bob Marley or The Very Best of the Eagles on this list, sadly. There is a giant exception to this rule: live albums are OK. It's my list, deal with it.

  • All killer, no filler. If I don't enjoy every single song on the album, it's not on the list. I removed a decent amount of albums after giving them a relisten and realizing I only liked them for a handful of songs. That means even entry #100 is a personal favorite of mine.

And that's it! Without further ado, I sincerely hope you enjoy the entries. Everyone's list won't look the same, so I'd love to hear what you think about these albums! After all, music is such a subjective topic.
